According to Matt's records, Karen and her sister Valene were semi-feral strays from Long Island, New York, who were almost clubbed to death while huddled together in fear. Probably as a result of that experience, both are shy and somewhat wary of strangers.

Of the two, Valene is the more confident. Once she gets to know you, she is very affectionate and wants to be with you and loves sitting on your lap. Karen, on the other hand, still has a way to go in that area. If, however, she were given the opportunity to go to a loving home with her sister Valene, we feel she would flourish. We know Matt was hoping that they could stay together. We hope so too. Karen and Valene are about six years old
