During the summer of 2002 Matt Gale headed west with a group of rescued cats from the New York / New Jersey area. Matt was an extraordinarily kind and compassionate individual who had rescued and saved each of the cats, many of whom had been abused or abandoned and who had very sad stories.

Matt had a job and a place for his cats at a refuge in Northern California. Unfortunately, conditions at the refuge, which no longer exists, were not what Matt had expected. Consequently, he left the refuge, eventually ending up in the East Bay with his 30 cats. Matt had hopes of finding another rescue group with which he could consolidate his efforts and which would help him provide a home for his cats. Sadly and unexpectedly, Matt, at the age of 39, passed away in August 2003 before he could accomplish that goal.

Had the cats gone to the local public shelter, many probably would have been euthanized. Fortunately, the Marin Cat Connection learned of the situation and was able to provide a temporary home for all 30 of Matt's cats. Happily, during the course of the last year a number of them have been adopted and now have wonderful new homes. However, there are still many of these sweet and loving cats left who do not have a home.
