Fostering Cats
YOU can make a big difference
for an abandoned and/or abused
kitty in desperate need of a safe, temporary home!
There are never enough foster homes for all of the kitties in need.
Are you considering fostering? These frequently asked Questions
& Answers should be helpful.
What does it mean to foster a cat?
You give a temporary home
to a cat or cats who are waiting to fins a permanent home. You
get the satisfaction of helping to meet a desperate need and the
pleasure of cat companionship without long-term responsibility.
How do I qualify?
You need to be able to:
- provide a secure space indoors,
such as a spare bedroom;
- handle regular feedings and litterbox
changes;
- spend some time socializing the
catoffering affection to the lonely, encouragement to
the shy, and patience to a cat who's been hurt or frightened
and doesn't respond immediately. Most rescued animals are pathetically
grateful for security, kidness, and attention.
How much does it cost?
You don't have to spend any money.
Marin Cat Connection provides all suppliesfood, equipment,
litter, toysand pays all vet bills. Of course, donations
are gratefully accepted.
What if I can't manage visits to the vet?
Don't worryif a cat needs medical attention for any reason,
an MCC volunteer will pick it up and return it.
Do I have to find a new home for the cat?
No. Calls go to Marin Cat Connection phone numbers. A volunteer
will arrange visits by prospective adopters at your convenience.
How long will I have to keep the cat
Suppose no one wants
to adopt it
What if I get sick or handle the responsibility?
Some cats are adopted right way. For others, it can take weeks
or even months to find the right permanent home. But if keeping
the cat becomes a problem for you at any point, Marin Cat Connection
will find a new foster home for it.
Suppose it turns out that a particular cat & I just don't
get along?
MCC will try to find you a foster cat that's a good match.
What if I fall in love with the cat and want to keep it?
Of course you may adopt a cat that you've fostered. And you still
don't have to worry about your cat's future, because if you are
ever unable to care for it, Marin Cat Connection will find a new,
safe and happy home for it.
I'm interested, but I still have some questions.
